no insurance card in the glove box

I was the driver and my friend was the car owner.When stopped by the police officer, both of us were in the car. I just don't understand why the ticket was issued to me instead of my friend when the police officer found my friend did not have the insurance card inside the glove box.Can I sue my friend for the whole unpleasant process?

The driver is responsible for ensuring that he has at least teh state minimum liability insurence coverage, and that he can prove it upon demand to an officer. Perhaps because he is your friend, he should help pay yrou fine and attorney fees. But, you, not your friend violated the law.

If you or your friend had insurance coverage at the time you were stopped, I may be able to help you get the charges reduced. Perhaps to a non-moving violation that will not affect yrou license.
