The rules require that you register your vehicle without notice thirty days of establishing your domicile in kansas. If one maintains a residence in their previous state, it can be difficult to determine when they've made Kansas their domicile. If you are the lease or mortgage for the place where your boyfriend lives, your domicile in Kansas. If you have, you are also supposed to change your driver's license too.
Good luck
