Legal Question in Traffic Law in Kansas

Paying double fine for speeding ticket

I live in MO. I recieved a speeding ticket in Dec. for 8 mph over by the Kansas Highway Patrol. I recieved another speeding ticket for 8 mph over in late March. This ticket was issued by a Frontenac Kansas officer. I have been told that I could pay double for the fine and it will not be reported to my insurance company. I need to know if this is true, and if I need to contact an attorney to do this or just pay the court. Also I have been told that traffic school may also be an option to keep my insurance from going up. Thank you in advance.

Re: Paying double fine for speeding ticket

I would need to know the exact jurisdiction where you received the ticket. It is true that some of the courts in Kansas will allow you to pay double to receive an amendment of the ticket to a non-moving violation. However, some do not. I have a detailed list of jurisdictions and what they typically will allow or charge. You are certainly on the right track in trying to get the tickets amended. If these tickets are not amended, you could be faced with a big spike in you insurance premiums and/or losing you license. That is why it is usually best to have an attorney handle something like this. Feel free to email me regarding the jurisdiction issue.

No attorney client relationship exists between us.
