my dad may go to an assisted living facility next year can he gift me 10k this year and next without causing medicare problems later should he run out of money

There is no guarantee that $10k gifts will not cause a delay in medicare coverage. If a parent wishes to make so ch gifts, it is often better than o start as soon as posdible. The recipient should be prepared to pay back the funds for three years, or keep the funds to apply toward the giver"s medical needs.
