If I had Durable Power of Attorney while my father was alive, is it still valid now that he has passed away?

In most cases the authority ends with eh death of the protectee. At that point one shoudl apply for authority with the probate court. Otherwise, they could be personally liable for any losses suffered by heirs or devisees.
