Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kansas

Executor

My sister-in-law's father recently passed away and I am trying to help her find out if there was a will or an executor named for the estate. She does not have contact with any of her surviving stepbrother or stepsisters. She was not notified of his illness or pending death until he was deceased. His house has recently been placed on the market to be sold and wants to know who placed it on the market and some other issues. She is one of 5 biological children of deceased and the deceased was not married at the time of his death. Can you tell us how we would go about finding out if there was a will or even how to find out if there was an executor named? Can we go to our local Courthouse to search for any of these answers? We don't know where to begin.

Thanks!!!

Re: Executor

I would call the probate court clerk to determine if a probate action has been filed with the court and then call the attorney and the executor to let them know of your interest. If his will is filed with the court, you may obtain a copy. I would also call the realtor who has the listing on the house and find out who is offering the home for sale. Finally, one should check some internet directories and telephone directories for the other interested family members. Good luck.
