Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kansas

No money to pay for funeral

Grandma had 5 kids, 2 who are deceased. One grandchild had power of attorney before her death and planned the funeral. She split the cost 5 ways (grandchildren picking up the difference where the parents couldn't pay). One family did not pay. Now she wants more money from the other four (balance split 4 ways). One of those 4 families is at odds because they already paid extra for the headstone (which was not part of the original cost). Are they required to pay any additional cost?

Re: No money to pay for funeral

funeral expenses are a debt of the decedent's estate and should be paid by the executor/administrator/trustee. whatever the informal sharing arrangement, the person (or persons) who contracted for the burial is/are normally legally responsible to the funeral home.
