Can you recieve a gift while going through bankrupcy ?

It depends. It depends on where you are in the bankruptcy process and what type of bankruptcy you are in and how much the gift is.

If the gift is very large and you are in a Chapter 13, then it would be counted as income and may affect your plan. If it is in a Chapter 7 and after the petition was filed, then it would not be automatically part of the estate. However, even in the 7, if it is particularly large, it may raise questions that are best left alone. It is best to talk to a bankruptcy attorney about the specifics of the situation.
