Accused of harassment

I manage a plant. A young lady out of college was hired to be a trainee. After several months it was evident she would not be working out. My boss and myself offered her another job which was actually a better job but would not be management. She told my boss ''yes'' she would do the job. My boss left and fifteen minutes later she came crying to my office and said she did not want that job and gave her two week notice. Later, my boss called her and at that point she alledged harassment by me and several other employees (that we teased her about her boyfriend too hard and said things like ''if you'd give you boyfriend more sex you'd get along with him better). All untrue!!! This whole things smells in that we knew nothing until the boss talked with her and now it's a human resource bloodletting on us. Do we have a claim of Character Defamation against the young lady and possibly the company if they ''publish'' false claims?

If what the woman is saying is untrue, she has "published" and you do have a claim for defamation. Whether there may be one against the company would depend on how careful they were to figure out what was true or not.

Sexual harasment allegations can mean the loss of a career. If you lose a job over such allegations, you might not be hired by other employers. I recommend you obtain legal representation.
