Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Kentucky
Who is responsible for medical bills?
My husband's employer recently closed his business, filed bankruptcy and moved to another state. I was covered under his (self-funded)health insurance plan at the time and had expensive diagnostic tests and procedures at a local hospital. Now the hospital informs me that I am liable for the $7,000 debt, am I responsible to pay for these services even though I was covered by his insurance plan at the time?

Re: Who is responsible for medical bills?
If you were in fact covered, the insurance company is responsible for your bills. Under COBRA, you are entitled to retain your coverage for a period of 18 months after termination of employment, provided you pay the premiums timely.
You may wish to consult an employment lawyer if you are unable to resolve your problems by yourself.
