Legal Question in Technology Law in Kentucky

Reporting CD fraud

Can a music shop sell people bootleg CD of a popular rock band (Metallica) as new for a high price and get away with it.I didn't know it was copied until I got home. This CD has a label of a recording studio,(Starcade Records)that I can't find information on.The cover looks real. Is there a copy right law that protects the consumer?

Re: Reporting CD fraud

The purpose of copyright law is to protect the owner of the copyright,

which is originally the author, composer, or performer of the music, but

which can be transferred to the publisher or record company.

I suggest that you contact the record studio that issues genuine

Metallica recordings and inform them of the source of the bootleg

recording. Their attorneys should be interested in this case

of both copyright and trademark infringement.
