Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kentucky

Statue of Limitations on old health care bill

Was in a car accident in 1996 which required services by a chiropractor. He was told to bill my insurance company. November 15th 2001 received bill for balance of services that the insurance company did not pay. I have not heard from the doctor since 1996 and received bill out of the blue. I want to know his statute of limitations on recovering the balance that he says I owe. Is it too late for him to have legal recourse against me? Again this is the first bill that I have received since 1996.

Re: Statue of Limitations on old health care bill

Yes, your doctor still has time to go after the unpaid portion of your chiropracty bills. The statute of limitations on "accounts" is six years from the date it was incurred. So, depending on when the services were rendered by the chiropractor, he would have until at least sometime in 2002 to sue you.
