Trials are postponed for all kinds of reasons, including requests by defendants, so it is unlikely that a case would be dismissed simply because your trial was continued four times.

Different rules govern speedy trials in state and federal courts and an experienced attorney will be able to advise you about both sets of rules.

Assuming you are currently represented by a lawyer, ask him or her to explain why each continuance occurred and how that affects your right to a speedy trial. Sometimes trials have to be postponed because a defense lawyer can't be in two places at once; sometimes delay is a trial strategy for witness or other reasons.
