Re: domestic violence
It is a good thing that your have finally decided to get out of what is obviously an abusive relationship. If your "friend" has taken a warrant out for you, you need to contact your local Public Defender's office at once. You will need legal representation to protect your rights in court. You may also contact your local Legal Services Office (Legal Aid) for help in recovering compensation for the damages done to your personal property. Admittedly, these sorts of cases are difficult to prove, without eye-witnesses, but you may be able to file a Small Claims lawsuit against your friend. Some folks feel there are advantages to couples living together without getting married. While this may be true, whenever the ultimate breakup occurs, enforcing property rights in courts becomes exceedingly difficult.
