Expunging a criminal record

It has been three years since my one and only conviction of shop lifting. It happened while i lived in Kentucky. I now live in Colorado.

I would like to have my record expunged. My questions are:

1. Do I need an attorney for this or could it be something i can do myself, such as filling the form and paying a fee?

2. How much does this cost, generally speaking?

3. If I need an attorney, does it matter if the attorney practices law in KY or CO? I understand a KY lawyer would have an advantage being a local, but other than that, is there a need or a benefit to woking with a lawyer from out of state?

Your questions are premature by at least two years, and probably three. The Kentucky statute governing expungement of a misdemeanor conviction permits a petition to be filed no sooner than five years after the completion of your sentence or probation whichever was later.
