Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kentucky
A friend of mine took a vehicle valued at around $8,000. He knows the owner and could not get in contact with him to ask his permission to borrow it. He knew the man keeps the keys in the car and it happened to be unlocked. My friend lost his cell phone and had no cash for a cab, leaving him stranded within walking distance of this man's house. He simply "borrowed" the car for a few hours to drive 20 minutes home to get cash and change clothes. After he had done this he took the vehicle back to the man's house and called a cab to take him back home. The man found out and filed a police report and wants to press charges. If taken to court, What would happen?

There was no intent to actually deprive him of his property, and from the facts, sounds like he'd have a tough time proving your friend didn't have permission to take the vehicle. Frankly, I'd be surprised if anyone was interested in prosecuting it. Maybe if they're really bored or if he really pushes it.
