Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kentucky
Is it against the law to pretend to be someone you are not, and receive financial or material gains because of that?
Situation: Two people meet online. They become close friends. Over the course of approximately 3 years, one spends $2000+ on items/bills for the other. But it turns out that the friend who has received the financial and material benefit has been using photos of someone else and posing as being that person. The relationship was based on half truths. Honesty about their real name, family details, and physical location, but lies about their physical appearance, their job, their financial well-being, and other details. It also looks like the person who has been lying, may be doing so for others and receiving similar gains from those people.
