The short answer is yes. The defense lawyer has a duty to show the defendant (your son) the evidence against him and discuss with him what the evidence means and what the likely effect will be on the jury.
It appears that there were some damaging photographs that the lawyer thought would make a guilty verdict likely. He showed them to your son and told your son what he thought. He then conveyed the plea offer (which he is also required to do). Your son decided to accept the plea offer. While I cannot say that your son should have taken the offer, or not, because I do not know enough about the case, it does not appear to me that anything improper happened based on your question.
