my boyfriend got pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. The police searched the car and found a gun. did the police have the right to search the car when it's not even in his name?

They do if he gave them permission. However, he may have an argument for suppression in this case. He should hire an attorney who can go through his case in more detail.
