2nd Marriage finances

Can a couple marry and keep their finances entirely separate, file separate tax forms, etc.?

These are two separate questions. You can keep finances separate by having a prenuptial agreement and then not commingling funds. The prenuptial is not 100% - a court can overturn it if they deem it unconscionable. But, it is the best chance you have.

If married, you have two options for taxes: married filing jointly and married filing separately. You cannot file as single. Generally, married filing jointly reduces taxes the most.
