Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Alimony

My exwife and I divorced over 4 years ago,we had no legal representation. We had discussed me paying her Alimony of $600 a month. When we were standing in front of the judge my ex told the judge I had promised her $600 a month Alimony. The Judge had us go outside the court room and write on the divorce summation that I would pay this amount. I was disabled out of the Army and only draw $1100 from the military and only draw $900 a month from Social Security. Since that time my ex remmarried after 2 years and has a job thats she had a while. Do I have any recourse in this matter? Is there anyway to stop or lower this Alimony? Joe

Re: Alimony

I recommend using an attorney this time, but here is the argument to present to the court. The typical alimonty ("mainetenance") agreement has a provision that it will end upon the recipient remarrying. The argument is that such a condition was implied in the agreement, but since neither of you had attorney's, that it was not know to write it in also. Now, it would be "unconscionable" for her to continue to recieve it since she is remarried.

Since $600 per month for the rest of your life is on the line, it would be wise to invest in professional legal help.
