Blackmailing for permission to take son out of country on vacation
I have joint custody for my son with my ex-husband and I am the primary care giver. I have him five days a week and he has him two. I want to take my son on a vacation out of the country to Punta Cana and need his written permission to do so. At first he said he would and then he text messaged me that he will only sign it if i give him one thousand dollars of my tax return money. I have already payed for the vacation and need to know if there is anything I can do.

1. Save the message.
2. Go see an attorney. Immediately.
There is a chance that, if you present this matter to a Court, it will be willing to grant an order allowing this trip as long as you are not trying to leave the country with the child in order to keep the child away from Dad.
If you have any WRITTEN statement from the ex saying he would sign the document, be sure to take that to your attorney as well. Be sure to present ALL the information to the court, especially the part about the ex wanting $1,000 for his signature.
If attorney's fees are keeping you from contacting a professional, keep in mind that an attorney has the option in this type of matter, to ask the court to award attorney's fees and court costs. Your ex's behavior may be just the incentive a judge would need to award that.
