Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky
Change Child Support status
I get child support every two weeks from my exhusband in the amount of $269.09 for two children. Now he has only increased that by $50.00 in the past ten years. I know for a fact that he makes really good money and the girls are getting more expencive. He never misses a child support payment and I get a personal check right on time. But when I mention needing more money to help out with the schooling and clothes he starts threating me with trying to take my girls because I have it hard once in awhile. He says if I can't take care of them then he will. My question is. How can I get him to pay more child support without having to pay a lawyer? I can't afford to pay one. And would I be better off having it set up through Child services? The court never did say for sure how he was to pay. Needing help with my girls.
Thank you

Re: Change Child Support status
I would doubt that after this length of time a challenge to your custody would be successful. Child support in Kentucky is initially computed based upon the gross income of the parties and a set schedule. There can be some exception when there are extraordinary problems such as illness, etc but generally the schedule is adhered to . Check with your local child support services to see if they can assist you. Check with an attorney. He may be able to seek reimbursement of attorney fees. Don't be afraid to go to court if you think that more support is due. Consult with an attorney even if you have to pay an office call. It may be worth your time.
