Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky
Change in state jurisdiction
My son's divorce was granted in Louisville, Kentucky and now (for over six months) he, his ex and their child all live in Cincinnati, Ohio. After spending a considerable amount of money in his efforts to obtain custody - or at the least a reasonable visitation schedule - he finds it financially draining to continue commuting to Kentucky for hearings, etc. Since he long ago lost faith in his attorney and would like to seek counsel in Ohio, he needs to know how difficult it might be to have the court jurisdiction changed from Kentucky to Ohio. He doesn't have the financial resources to pursue dead ends.

Re: Change in state jurisdiction
He needs to consult with Ohio counsel. Ther are ways to bring the issues before an Ohio Court but this is technical. If he is disatisfied with his present attorney, then he needs to discharge him. The attorney-client relationship is very personal and if it is not working, then the parties need to move on. Courts are VERY reluctant to change a custody decree unless it is in the best interest of the children and this requires a substantial change in circumstances since the original custody order was entered. Your son's attorney may have done all that can be done.
