Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Changing my child's name

I live in KY, and was divorced in Aug. 2006. I have residential custody of my 2-year old daughter, and my ex husband has visitation. I want to change my daughter's last name to mine, or at the LEAST, hyphenate it so she can be represented by my family too. My lawyer has told me I cannot do this, but I have found much information on the internet saying that I can petition the court to do. Can I? Please let me know.

One can find just about anything on the internet. You lawyer is correct in that the other parent has to consent to the name change.
