Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Checks

Well my father passed away when i was very young and i receive checks for his death..But the thing is i dont get them or even see them my mother takes them and uses them. From what i know i stop getting them when i turn eighteen and i would like to save it up for college. I am currently sixteen so i have little time to save the money. How can i get my mom to give me the money or at least half of it?

Re: Checks

Well, the time honored technique of the teen tantrum is an option, but unless your mother is not using the money for your basic needs, there is nothing legal you can do. Those funds are to assist in meeting your basic needs and your mother has a fiduciary duty to spend the money in a reasonable manner.

Now, unless she is cashing the check and running to Vegas to bet it all on red, or replenishing a supply of crack cocaine (actually any illicit drug would do) then you would be very unlikely to succeed in challenging her in court.
