Re: How is child abuse defined?

In Kentucky, child abuse is punishable as first, second, and third degree criminal abuse, depending on the seriousness of the abuse and the intent of the defendant. Punishment can range from a Class C felony (5-10 years in prison) to a Class A misdemeanor (up to 1 year in jail).

A parent's rights will be involuntarily terminated only under the most extreme circumstances, and usually only when the child has been fully integrated into the home of a foster parent. Contact your local county attorney's office for more information.

Good luck.
