Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Child Custody

My cousin has twin girls who are right now in Kentucky. They are residents of Ohio. The mother is in Florida and hasn't seen them for 6 months. She has offered no support for them. They have been tossed from one place to the next. What can I do to obtain some sort temporary custody of these girls?

Re: Child Custody

One approach is to file a dependency, neglect or abuse action. Some Counties allow private citizens to file these in District Court and others require that you first contact child protective services.

Another avenue depends on the age of the children and how long they have lived with the cousins. If they qualify as de facto custodians, they can file a petition for custody.
