There are no rules for shared custody of a child for purposes of calculating child support in Kentucky. The courts have discretion on how to calculate support in this situation. Generally the guidelines are a starting point and some cases have said judges are free to deviate from those guidelines by taking the difference between support owed by each parent to the other, however, the courts do not have to do this and can simply follow the guidelines, or may go by some other standard as long as it is reasonable.
