Re: child support
An adequate receipt is anything that states the amount of child support, the date, and "received" with the receiver's signature. Make sure the date, amount and receiver's signature appear on the writing. It does not matter what it is written on.
A sufficient receipt might say:
[Date]
Child support of $XXX.00 received.
/Signature/
In the alternative, I usually advise clients to keep a chart with three columns labeled "Date", "Amount", and "Signature". Each time that client pays in cash, he or she writes down the date and amount and has the custodial parent sign his or her name in the third column.
It does not have to be complicated. Just remember, though, if you pay cash and do not get some type of receipt showing you paid child support, it can be considered a gift and a court may find you have not paid child support as ordered.
