Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Cohabitation

I have lived with a man for 29 years. I helped him grow into a very successful person now I am told if I leave him I get nothing. Can I bring any civil action ,in case I do leave and could his children keep me from getting anything. He used to talk marriage now he says no way .What if any legal options do I have ?

Re: Cohabitation

there are a lot more facts that an attorney would need in order to begin to give you an adequate answer. You should contact an attorney and have a face to face consultation. There is no such thing in Kentucky as "Common-Law" marriage. The length of time that you have lived together does not give you any rights as a spouse. Having said that, the circumstances that you set out would lead me to think that you might be considered a partner in the business or at the very least, a substantial participant. There may be other issues involved. Take my response here as an indication that you need to consult an attorney. There may not be a charge for the initial consultation. You have a lot at stake here to do this alone.
