Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

College Obligiation for Divorced Parents

Is there a legal obligation that each parent (custodial and noncustodial) has in contributing towards 18yo son's college education - exwife is looking for most expensive college for son and I cannot afford it - am I obligated to pay half of this??? Also, it is a residential college where he will attend - am I still obligated to send wife child support as well?

Re: College Obligiation for Divorced Parents

Kentucky law provides for an obligation to support children until they are 18 or graduate from high school, whichever occurs later and in no event past the 19th birthday. There are exceptions where the child marries or is disabled. There is no provision for college unless there is some provision in the divorce or support agreement or decree.
