Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

DeadBeat Mom

I am a US soldier a. I had 4 kids by the time I was 22 years old. I changed my life when I joined the Army. I have full custody of one of my kids and receive no support from the mom, since she claims she's disabled but yet she's had 2 more kids in the five years I had my son. I have to other kids, I pay $600 per month, the mom refuses to work. I pay health and dental insurance, I even volunteered to pay %50 of uninsured costs. She is on welfare and foods stamps. She refuses to work, but continues to have kids and isn't married. Everytime she has another baby she wants me to pay more support. I love my kids and I wish I could do more but I can't. I make $1550 ea. month after taxes, with no other income. The state of FLA is seeking to raise my support by $300 at her request. How am I supposed to support myself and maintain a household. I offered to take full custody of these kids and let her keep the support to help her get on her feet. She refuses, I don't get to see the kids. I am at the end and cannot afford a lawyer, JAG will not represent me. Please help...if my support is raised $300 I won't be able to pay my rent or carnote and take care of my other two kids. I know you receive thousands of requests but please help!!!!!

Re: DeadBeat Mom

You have asked this question based on Kentucky law and yet the question indicates Florida law is involved. You may want to re-ask it and choos Florida law.

Based on Kentucky law, the only reason for increasing child support is if there is a significant change in your financial situation. The way you wrote this question, she is asking for more child support because she has had other kids by some other guy - that's just crazy and I can't imagine a court doing that.

Now, if you have failed to respond to her motion and failed to provide proof of income, then you have essentially let the enemy overrun your border.

Now, think this through. You don't have money to pay an attorney, but you risk losing $300 more per month without one. That is $3,600 a year. The real question is "Can I afford not to hire an attorney." If you can go to Florida and represent yourself, perhaps you will come out okay without an attorney. Now, how much will it cost to go down there? How many times might you have to go?
