Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

debts from divorce

I have been divorced 2 years as of this august. In our divorce papers our marital debts were divided between the 2 of us, with each of us taking responsibility for certain debts. My ex-husband is not paying his debts which he agreed to pay and this has ruined my credit and they the debtors are harrassing me for payment. Can I fix this?

Re: debts from divorce

While you still may be jointly liable to the creditors for these debts, depending upon the Court's order, your ex may be in contempt of a court order and you may be able to seek recourse directly from him.

I would first recommend you send a letter to the creditor(s) informing them of the court order. You may also want to attach a copy for their records. Then, go speak with an attorney about your options against your ex at this point.

Be advised that the foregoing information is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice, nor does it establish an attorney-client relationship. If you have concerns about your legal rights, you should confer with the attorney of your choice.
