Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

divorce

How do you know if your attorney is representing you correctly? My child support seems high for having 2 kids full time and 2 kids a third of the year. I pay $640 a month. I make $44000 a year and she makes $18000. I have the insurance on the kids, which is $160 a month. Based upon that does that sound right to you?

Re: divorce

That amount is at least in the ballpark of being right, but there are other factors that are needed in order to say for sure. Do the 2 children with you full time have the same other parent as the two that are with you 1/3 of the year? Is the 1/3 a year greater than the standard guidelines for your county? Is there child-care expenses? Is there other income that should be included - for example, should the mother be imputed higher income because she is underemployed voluntarily?

There are several factors that can affect child support and if you are concerned your attorney is not figuring it correctly, it may be worth investing in a consult (a second opinion so to speak) with another attorney rather than just switching attorneys.
