Am I likely to have to buy insurance for my spouse if we are divorced,I now have insurance from my employer. I am retired, 64 yrs old she is 63 been married 44 years' We have approx $2800'00 month, ly income ,$ 800'00 per month is her ss, the rest is my ss and my retirement income.

It sounds like you are referring to health insurance though sometimes judges order life insurance policies in cases where maintenance (alimony) or child support has been ordered. Property distribution and support issues are so variable depending on the facts and the judge's tendencies that it would be impossible to give you a definitive answer.

What I can tell you is that because of the disparity between your income and hers, you are likely to be ordered to provide support in some way - either through maintenance, health insurance, more assets going to her or a combination.

She should be eligible under COBRA for continued coverage from your current health insurance for a period of time. Often, COBRA rates are significantly higher.

The best outcome is to set aside any ill feelings and try to negotiate something you can both live with.
