Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky
Family Matters - financial
My husband's grandmother has suddenly become financially irresponsible - so her children (aged 60/59) want to remove her control of her finances. She spends thousands of $ they don't have buying things no one needs (20 rugs, 15 pots and pans, $500 worth of flowers, 30 full outfits of clothes - all in one shopping trip). She has created massive overdrafts on her bank accounts with this behavior as well as her son and daughters accounts by forcing them to pay her bills to keep her from getting in trouble. Is there any way to 'forcibly' take away her ability to keep writing these checks, using these credit cards, etc? They tried hiding them, but she just gets new ones (or others that she has hidden away). She threatens to kill herself every time they try to ask her to stop spending money none of them have. Is there anything they can do to get control of her finances so they can try to straighten out the mess she has created? She's 80 years old, and they all live in KY. Any guidance would be sincerely appreciated because this is driving my mother in law crazy and she doesn't need that stress! Thank you!

Re: Family Matters - financial
Someone needs to file a petition in the district court where she lives to be appointed conservator or guardian.
