Re: intitalments to house and contents
This is not something where a clear, single answer can suffice. There are so many other factors involved that need to be considered. For example, if your name is on the loan and your credit rating is really good and you want to protect it, then you may want to help keeping it paid. You aren't getting the enjoyment or use of the house so there is no other good reason to keep paying or at least paying half. If you stop paying, you are still entitled to a just division of property. Beyond that, one must figure out what is marital property and what is non-marital.
Going through a divorce and representing yourself can be a painful and costly experience. So many people try to handle it without an attorney which can be done, but then realize how much more they ended up costing themselves. You may be better off taking those house payments and putting them towards a family law attorney.
