Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

I am not married but have lived with someone for 16 years. If he asks me to leave, what legal recourse do I have?

This is exactly why marriage rights are so important for cohabitating couples, and why denying homosexuals the ability to marry makes those individuals vulnerable under the law. You may have no rights to anything in the home you've shared for 16 years if your partner has paid for it all. You could very well be out on the street with nothing if you don't have an attorney with a creative argument why you are entitled to interest in his property. I would suggest speaking to a family law attorney who has experience in these types of cases (even if you are not a same sex couple, specifically ask if that attorney has done work for same sex couples and unmarried couples, otherwise you'll pay a lot more in legal fees while your attorney gets up to speed on current law). Although many people feel marriage isn't right for them because of what it stands for, or commitment issues due to a previous bad marriage, if you are cohabitating in an uneven partnership financially, you put yourself at risk by not availing yourself of the rights and protections of civil marriage in lieu of long-term cohabitation.
