Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky
Minor Seeking Emancipation
I'll be 18 in February. My mother is trying to push me off on my father who is a serious drug user. My father does not want me, and it is apparent neither does my mother. A long time family friend would let me stay with him in a stable house hold. Anyway I can somehow leave my parents and live with him and his family?
It is quite clear my mother does not want me, we fight all the time. My father wants nothing to do with me.
I live in Kentucky and recognize there are no emancipation laws here, but there must be some way.

Re: Minor Seeking Emancipation
When you turn 18, you become an adult. Go where you want. Until then, your parents are in control, unless the juvenile court intervenes.
I'll sound like Ann Landers (and if you're 17, that name doesn't mean a thing to you), but talk to a counselor, either at school or at the local mental health agency. They can probably help you get some direction and strategy on surviving until February.
Good luck.
Re: Minor Seeking Emancipation
If it is true that neither your mother or father want you to live with them, then they should be willing to let you live with this trusted family friend. If they do so, then they can give him guardianship pretty easily and guardianship is also easily reversible.
