motion hearing

what happens if you dont show for a motion hearing filed against you . it didnt come certified mail or served by asheriff simply was recieved in the mail for visitation of my child who the father hasn't seen in 6 years

Once you are under the jurisdiction of court, motions only need to be sent by first class US mail; they do not need to be served by a sheriff or sent certified. So, if you do not show up, you will likely lose.
