Moving out of state

We have joint custody of my two children and I am the promary custodian I would like to move out of state. I am going through a divorce do I need permission from the court or just need to notify them.

Having joint custody means "sharing" in decisions with respect to the children. The original grant of joint custody took into account living situations, etc. Anything that disturbs that must be either agreed to or approved by the Court. Moving out of state without the approval of the other party or of the Court may result in primary custody being taken from you. Other states would have a tendency to enforce the Kentucky judgment and see it that way too.
