Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Return Of Personal Property

Not sure if im in the right place or not but here goes.

Myself and my fiance were suppose to be married but she went back to calfornia to help take care of a termally ill relitive. I was here in Kentucky taking care of a close relitive that that passed and I was going to move out to calfornia I sent about 3/4s fo my property there and now that the wedding is off I need to get my property returned to me.

Some of the property includes important papers to settle the estate which im having a hard time getting her to send back.

I even went as far as to set up a account with a carrier in order to get my stuff returned. But all im getting is her telling me that she will take it to the shipper well its been since march and still nothing im at my witts end over this am I going to lose the property or what?

It involves several thousand dollars in DVDs and eletronic equipment. Plus some family things that cant be replaced.

I dont know what else to do

Re: Return Of Personal Property

Many mistakenly believe that living together, rather than getting married, allows one to avoid such things as what you are describing. Unfortunately, that is not true. However, there are legal mechanisms to address this through small claims court or regular court depending on the value of the property. This would NOT go through family or domestic relations court though.

If you guys had been married and going through divorce or separation, property would have been assigned and easily retrieved per court orders. Anyway, this is just food for thought for your next relationship.
