Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

A friends boyfriend has taken their daughter, moved to a city close to her. She just found out where the child is going to school, the boyfriend wont let the child talk to the mother or see her, and the reason is because she wont have any thing to do with him. Can this man legally do this, they have never been married, their are no custody papers, nothing. We dont know what he is telling this child, and the mother doesnt know what to do. Is this kidnapping, we called the sheriffs dept. they said they wouldnt get involved. C an the mother go get this child from school and bring her home. The boyfriend has a bad temper and is not a good Father, what can we do. Please answer my question if you can, this is tearing our hearts out.T he boyfriend is just doing this out of spite. He wont call the mother or let her know where he lives or any thing.Starting out when they split up, he baby sat, then just moved, just like that. No address or anything, what can we do, and it be legal. I cant sleep at night or any thing, this is my grand daughter. Thank you. wAITING DESPERATELY FOR AN ANSWER

You are going to have to seek legal counsel for assistance here. Child custody has too many varibles. Without more, each parent is entitled to have the child. That is the short answer. Every divorce begins with that but somehow this simple thing can result in years of litigation. I do not know the history, etc. Get an appointment with a good attorney who practices domestic law and let him/her ask you the right questions so that your situation can be evaluated.
