Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Unmarried with Newborn in Kentucky

I have a two month old daughter. Her father and I are not married and I let his mother to take her to visit one of her friends. Now the paternal grandmother refuses to give her back to me. I called the police and they said since the baby's father lives with the grandmother that she doesn't have to give her back to me. I called a lawyer and he wanted $2,500 up front to talk to me. What can I do to get my baby back?

You have to file a petition to establish paternity, custody, child support and timesharing under Kentucky Revised Statutes, section 406. You have to serve that petition on the father and then you have to file a motion (which can be done at the same time as the petition) that has an affidavit (sworn statement by you) setting forth why you should have custody.

You should go to the bar assoication in your county and see if there is a pro bono clinic where you can get legal assistance.
