Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kentucky
My ex took me to civil court in January of this year and sued me over a phone bill that was $623. The judge ordered in her favor and gave me 10 days. I'm a college student and wasn't able to simply fork over the money but i've been making payments and have paid off over $200. She keeps hasseling me about the rest of the money and wants me to have it to her by the middle of next month because shes graduating and told me she needs the money for grad school entrance fees and threatens me by saying she can have me sent to jail if i dont have it piad off when she wants it. Is this true? Can i get sent to jail over a civil suit? Also isn't it wrong for her to have told the judge the money was for a phone bill but she's actualy using it for grad school entrance fees?

Yes, you can get sent to jail over a civil suit. If the Court finds that you are in contempt of a court order, then you could be thrown in jail at the Court's discretion. It doesn't happen very often, but depending on the judge, it could happen.
It doesn't matter what she uses the money for, you have a judgment against you. She can decide not to pay the phone bill and go on vacation instead. Or perhaps she's already paid the phone bill. Either way, you owe her money, there's a court order stating you were to pay that money in 10 days, I would suggest you find a way to pay it. Otherwise, even if the Court doesn't send you to jail, it will still likely find you in contempt and award her additional relief, including attorneys fees.
