Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kentucky

How to file a continuation request while representing myself?

I am unable to hire an attorney for at least three more weeks. I was injured on-the-job over four months ago and have not received any compensation in that period, but will receive the full amount of back pay in approximately two weeks. I must appear in family court in two days for a non-payment of child-support contempt charge. What is the best procedure to request a continuance until I can obtain legal council? I have all documentation (medical and Workman's Comp)to substantiate my request. Thanks.

You need to speak to local counsel who is familiar with local procedure, etc.. You should be able to obtain an attorney in your situation. The other option is to call the child support folks and work out an agreement before court. They just want the money and some reasonable assurance that it will be there. I still think that in most communities that you would be able to obtain representation.
