Potential Class Action Lawsuit Against AAMC?
This requests your opinion on a possible class action lawsuit or other legal remedy against the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
Background: The AAMC provides a clearinghouse for medical school applications called the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). An estimated 50,000 applicants pay $500 or more for the service each year. This year, changes to the processing system have caused serious delays in application processing. The mishandling of applicant data has placed some applicants at a competitive disadvantage. The AAMC's response to the problem can best be described as ''indifferent.'' In short, thousands of applicants paid $500-$1000+ for a service they did not receive.
I paid $630 for the service, and I want my money back. (I have not received a response to my letter requesting a refund. I'm not holding my breath.) I also want to prevent next year's class from facing similar problems.
Questions: What would be the best legal remedy for me to pursue in order to receive restitution? Would a class action suit be appropriate? Would it be better for me to sue for a refund in small-claims court?

Where does AAMC have its offices? That is where any claim would have to be filed against them for refund of your payment. At the level of amount of money involved, you could bring a small claims court matter, which would be heard in very short time and may serve you better than a long drawn out "class action" matter. Which would be expensive and involved.
