Legal Question in Employment Law in Kentucky

Deputy Sheriff

I work for the Cumberland County Kentucky Sheriff Department. I am a Deputy. The county judge just cut our benefits. He took our retirement and Insurance. He said the county was going broke, and had to free up some money. The county took our benefits as well as the County clerks office. We are still being covered by the counties workers compensation. The rest of the county employees kept their benefits, plus they got a raise. Can the county legally do this or do I have a legitimate complaint?

Re: Deputy Sheriff

To determine whether this taking violates your rights, I would need to know more about the retirement plan, what you have paid into it, your eligibility for it, etc. However, I do believe that it would violate you rights to take your retirement plan from you if you had a vested right in it or a property interest in it. You may contact me at [email protected] or the number in my profile to discuss this in more detail.
