Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kentucky

I have had bedbugs in my apartment for a year and the landlords come spray once in a while but they don't come when they say they will and it is not working. I have thrown out 4 couches and 3 sets of bedding and spent lots of money on bug spray. No one will rent to me when I mention the bugs but I don't feel right not telling them, it is not their responsibility to treat for them if I have them already. If I keep complaining they will evict me them I am up the creek. I am on a month to month lease, I won't sign a new one because of the bugs, and my rent increased because of this. My daughter and 2 year old grandson live with me. What can I do?

You need to go see a local attorney or visit your Legal Aid office for assistance. Landlord-tenant law is locally adopted, so whether you live in an area covered under the Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act makes a difference in what course you can pursue. If you live under URLTA, a landlord cannot evict you in retaliation for you making complaints about the bugs, and has a responsibility to eradicate them from your residence. While it is difficult to eradicate bedbugs, as they have become largely pesticide-resistant, it is still the landlord's responsibility.
